Potensi Lokal Petani Jagung Desa Sidomukti Kecamatan Brondong Kabupaten Lamongan

Abstract

This study aims to examine the potential and challenges faced by corn farmers in Sidomukti Village, Brondong District, Lamongan, with Mr. Sucipto as a representative case study. A qualitative method was employed through in-depth interviews, observation, and documentation. The findings reveal that local farmers possess high productivity potential, as evidenced by harvests reaching 3–4 times a year from a 600-square-meter plot of land. Farming practices that combine traditional and modern methods, such as the use of chemical and organic fertilizers, reflect farmers’ adaptation and local wisdom. However, the sustainability of corn farming encounters serious challenges, including market price fluctuations, limited access to technology, and specific environmental constraints such as saltwater intrusion that threatens soil fertility. It is concluded that improving farmers’ welfare requires interventions such as facilitating corn product downstream processing to increase added value, introducing climate- and salinity-resistant agricultural technology, and strengthening farmer institutions to enhance bargaining power.
