Abstract

Improving the quality of learning in elementary schools is strongly influenced by the active role of the principal in conducting academic supervision for teachers. However, in practice, many teachers still face challenges in planning, implementing, and evaluating the learning process optimally. This highlights the importance of the principal’s supervisory role in providing professional guidance to teachers in order to enhance the effectiveness of teaching and learning. This study aims to describe and analyze the implementation of academic supervision by the principal to teachers in an effort to improve the quality of learning at SDIT BIS Balikpapan. This research uses a qualitative approach with a descriptive method. Data collection techniques were carried out through in-depth interviews, observation, and document study. The research subjects included the principal, teachers, and the head of the curriculum division at SDIT BIS Balikpapan. Data analysis was conducted through data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. The results of the study indicate that academic supervision is carried out in a structured manner through planning, implementation, evaluation, and follow-up. The strategies used include individual coaching, training, classroom observation, and providing constructive feedback. Although there are obstacles such as time constraints, tight schedules, uneven teacher readiness, and difficulty in finding appropriate learning models for certain subjects, academic supervision has proven to play a role in improving teachers’ pedagogical competence and the effectiveness of the learning process.
